The project arises from the observation that, although information technologies have had a significant impact on various economic sectors, the agricultural sector has not experienced the same level of advancement regarding business management, especially in economic diagnosis, results estimation, and decision-making. Although some applications exist on the market, these are often of variable specificity and frequently do not adapt to the particular needs of agricultural companies, representing production systems linearly instead of by activity. Furthermore, web platforms that serve for the management of agricultural resources at different scales, both territorial and on-farm, have not been identified.
The general objective of this project is to develop an online platform for the management of agricultural resources at different scales, oriented to the relevant production activities of the province of Tucumán. To achieve this objective, the following specific objectives have been defined:
- Determine the modalities of resource use in important agricultural production activities in the province of Tucumán.
- Improve communication with producers and technicians through the online platform, allowing for the estimation of budgets and economic results.
- Contribute to the scientific-technical research activities of the Faculty of Agronomy, Zootechnics and Veterinary (FAZyV) in the agricultural economic field.
- Contribute to other academic activities, such as teaching at all levels.
The expected result of this project is an online platform that will allow users to estimate the costs and economic results of relevant agricultural activities in the province of Tucumán. It is expected that this platform will become a valuable service for agricultural agents and for the development of the sector in the province.
The methodology for platform development will be based on the Statement of Sources and Uses of Funds. The Direct Costing model will be used for cost estimation, and the Modified Guerra Method will be used for economic results estimation. The IT platform will be programmed using free and open-source software tools, and meetings with producers and technicians (focus-groups) will be held to improve the user experience.
